Angry fans fire back at Draymond Green after Warriors star claims Zach Edey ‘quit’ in NCAA championship defeat to UConn despite scoring 37 points

Connecticut is back-to-back NCAA men's basketball champions.

There's no doubt about that.

But what is highly debatable is whether Purdue star Zach Edey 'quit' on Monday during his team's 75-60 defeat to the Huskies that put Dan Hurley's team officially on top of the college basketball world.

That's exactly what controversial Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green suggested.

Fans immediately fired back at Green, who's been regularly suspended by the NBA in recent seasons and often inserts himself in the middle of divisive topics, then apologizes later.

"Job Well Done 35! You did your job tonight," Green tweeted. "It was him that made Edey quit with about 19 mins to go in the 2nd half.

"There was a turnover and I saw Edey body language walking back. He was done."

Green appeared to be referring to Connecticut's Samson Johnson as "35."

Fans clearly took offense to Green's public statement that Edey "quit" in the NCAA championship game.

"He doubled up as National Player of (the) Year. He didn’t quit homie. Dude ballin with zero help," one fan tweeted.

"Too bad Edey didn't have Steph (Curry) to carry him like you did your entire career," a second fan posted.

"Is this a serious post? The man had 37 and 10 was being doubled most of the game," a third fan wrote.

"Did you just shoutout a guy who played 5 minutes in the game for 'shutting down' the guy who scored two-thirds of his teams points?" a fourth fan said.

Edey scored a game-high 37 points on 15-of-25 shooting, while adding 10 rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks in 39 mintues of play.

The 7ft 4in big man barely left the court and he was the only Purdue (34-5) player to score more than 12 points.

Factually, Edey had more than half of the Boilermakers' 60 points and made almost four times as many field goals.

And as a fan correctly pointed out, Johnson only played five minutes while receiving five fouls.

"You ever watch the cartoons and there's the bad guy that gets all the hate?" said Purdue coach Matt Painter, referring to Edey. "And everybody's coming at him? The best player in college basketball … becomes cartoon bad guy. That's just the way it is."

But while almost everyone was focused on how UConn shut down the rest of Purdue's offense to win its second consecutive NCAA title, Green took the opposite route and coldly said that Edey "quit" on a night when the big man scored 37 points.

"Did You Watch The Game Bro?!" a fan tweeted. "Edey Straight DOMINATED. LOL. The Better Team Just Won!"

"Edey is the only person who showed up for Purdue," a second fan posted.

Green also told basketball fans how to "watch the game from that point on."

It was Green vs Edey and the rest of the basketball world on Monday.

Purdue lost to UConn, but Green also went 0-1 in the NCAA championship.

While Green angered Edey supporters on social media, the Warriors kept rolling in the NBA as they attempted to salvage an uneven season.
