Poor LeBron James.

Poor JJ Redick.

For weeks, it's increasingly appeared that Redick will become the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, despite never coaching before and primarily being an ESPN TV analyst.

But since Redick co-hosts a podcast with The King, Lakers fans were prepared for the former NBA sharpshooter to take over for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

That all suddenly changed on Thursday, when ESPN reported that the Lakers are preparing to make a big move for a college basketball coach.

Dan Hurley, who's won back-to-back national championships at Connecticut, will reportedly be the focus of a "massive offer."

Fans were quick to point out the irony of the Lakers' stunning change of plans.

Los Angeles was questioned by many for zeroing in on Redick, even though everyone knew he lacked NBA coaching experience.

Now, James could be stuck doing a podcast with the "coach" who didn't get the job.

"But what about JJ," one fan tweeted.

"This is far better choice then JJ Redick," a second fan posted.

"I'm puzzled as to why he would leave the comfort & security of a lifelong coaching position at UConn to move to LA, only to inevitably face unemployment in less than five years," a third fan wrote.

James has won one title with the Lakers but ultimately his time in Los Angeles has been a disappointment for the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

James and Redick share hosting duties on the Mind the Game podcast, where they regularly engage in inside-basketball chatter.

"Mind The Game is an entry into the heralded basketball minds of LeBron James and JJ Redick," the pod's bio reads.

"The two sit down weekly to discuss the state of the game, dissect X’s and O’s, and wax poetic about the game they love."

Now, James could be playing for a college coach next season who's known for sideline temper tantrums, which included getting into it with former Purdue star Zach Edey.

Hurley is on the verge of joining The King in La La Land and coldly pushing Redick to the curb, just as the NBA Finals with Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic are about to begin.

had previously reported that the Lakers were "zeroing in" on as Redick as the favorite to be the team's next head coach.

During the 2024 NCAA men's tournament, Hurley reportedly hurled expletives at a referee over an uncalled foul.

The Connecticut coach also got into it with Edey and was seen jawing at the Boilermakers big man during a timeout.

Hurley wasn't happy with Edey after he escaped an offensive foul after knocking Huskies forward Stephon Castle to the ground while setting a hard screen.

Fans were unimpressed with the UConn leader and called out Hurley for his "classless" behavior.

"Dan Hurley barking at Zach Edey just shows what a classless piece of (s***) he is. Coach your own kids Dan," one fan wrote.

"Hurley is classless. Talking to a player, what a loser," another added.

The Lakers will have to lock in Hurley first.

If he takes the big job, he'll have to win over Anthony Davis, The King, Lakers and skeptical NBA fans.

James could also become a free agent, while his son Bronny is set to enter the NBA Draft.
