The RBC Heritage betting preview
This tournament and the course - the Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus co-designed Harbour Town Golf Links - have always been popular with players but this year’s field is better than ever.
That’s because, in the past, most of the world’s elite tended to either take the week off or treat this event as something of an enjoyable after-show party.
But when the PGA Tour re-wrote its schedule with a series of “designated” events the RBC Heritage was one of those which had its stature and prize fund bumped up.
In fact, last week the Masters field was fighting for a prize pot of $18 million (a jump of $3 million from last year) and this week they are now playing for $20 million!
With fresh incentive to play, the top of the market is packed full of quality but beware - history tells us that contenders at Augusta National tend to struggle at Harbour Town (on the flipside, there have never been so many of them teeing it up).
The RBC Heritage betting tips
Tom Kim each-way
Born Joohyung Kim but now better known as Tom (because he’s a Thomas the Tank Engine fan), this Korean 20-year-old has been a breath of fresh air since he started competing on the PGA Tour last summer.
After impressing in the 2022 majors he completed a winning breakthrough at Sedgefield Country Club in the Wyndham Championship and four previous winners there have also claimed the tartan jacket awarded to the winner of the RBC Heritage.
Kim landed a top 20 on his Masters debut and this week’s test is a superior fit for his exceptional tee-to-green game.
Back him each way with Spreadex offering 40/1 for six places.
Si Woo Kim each-way
Tom Kim was not the first Korean winner at Sedgefield because back in 2016 his namesake Si Woo Kim claimed the first of his four PGA Tour titles there.
It’s also worth taking note of his other three victories.
He landed the Players Championship in 2017 and the American Express in 2021, both of them on Pete Dye-designed course.
In January he added the Sony Open at Waialae - a course that plays a lot like this week’s test.
Moreover, he was a runner-up at Harbour Town in 2018.
Take the 80/1 each-way on offer with bet365 (five places).
Shane Lowry each-way
If Shane Lowry can rediscover his putting touch this week he could be a genuine threat.
His tee-to-green game was superb at Augusta until he became worn down by a freezing cold putter.
He’s played Harbour Town five times, twice finishing third and also landing ninth - four of his last seven rounds have been sub-67.
Back him each way at 30/1 with Unibet which pays out five places.
