The US Open betting preview

Los Angeles Country Club is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the world.

In its storied past, it has famously black-balled movie stars, celebrities and executives, but this week it will be welcoming the field for the 123rd US Open.

It’s an exciting prospect because while the course looks pretty good - it is surrounded by villas and mansions, and has a creek running across the property - it is also a stunning test of golf.

It might not the brutal test from the tee that we are used to in a US Open but the greens at LA CC are well protected by rugged bunkers, rolling terrain and thick Bermuda rough.

Expect great views, late nights and difficult scoring.

The US Open betting tips

Here is a selection of the best picks for the US Open tournament.

Jon Rahm each way

Spain’s Jon Rahm loves playing golf in California.

In fact, he’s played in the state 25 times recording 16 top-10 finishes including five wins.

Even more impressively, his best two US Open finishes (third in 2019 and first in 2021) also came in California.

And while his long game is superb, the stats also highlight that he is not inconvenienced by hitting approaches over 200 yards which could be an invaluable asset this week.

Take him each way with Sky Bet offering 10/1 for seven places.

Xander Schauffele top 20

Consider this: in his last 100 starts anywhere Xander Schauffele has finished in the top 20 no less than 69 times.

In his last 50 starts? 36 times.

In his last 25? 20 times.

What about in the major championships? 16 times in 24 appearances.

While all of these are impressive numbers, they are better - much better - in the US Open itself.

He was fifth on debut at Erin Hills in 2017, sixth at Shinnecock Hills a year later, third at Pebble Beach four years ago, fifth at Winged Foot in 2020, and seventh in his home town San Diego at Torrey Pines in 2021.

He failed to land a top 10 last year but was still 14th at Brookline so he has a 100% top 20 record in this championship.

Take bet365’s 11/10 that he registers yet another top 20.

Russell Henley each way

The American Russell Henley has been banging on the door in this event and after winning earlier this season he might now have the confidence to push on and contend all week.

Back in 2017, he was seventh with 18 holes to play.

A year later he shared the first round lead.

And in 2021 he did better than that: he shared the lead after 18, 36 and 54 holes.

He finally landed his fourth PGA Tour title in the WWT Championship last November, he then recorded a major championship career-best fourth at the Masters and he’s finished top 20 in six of his last seven starts.

He’s an attractive 100/1 each way with William Hill offering eight places.
