Arsenal make the long trip north to Newcastle having recently suffered just their second defeat of the season in all competitions by crashing out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night following a 3-1 defeat away at West Ham in a London derby.

Mikel Arteta's side are yet to be defeated in the Premier League this season though, and seven wins from their opening 10 matches leaves them second in the table heading into the weekend.

An Eddie Nketiah hat trick against Sheffield United last weekend saw them climb up to second ahead of the defending champions Manchester City on goal difference, but the North London club still trail their local rivals Tottenham by two points at the top of the table.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have lost just once in all competitions since the start of September, a run spanning 11 matches but that defeat did come in their most recent home match, against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe's side followed that defeat up with a disappointing 2-2 draw with Wolves but got back to winning ways in emphatic style on Wednesday night as they won 3-0 at Old Trafford to dump out the defending champions.

The Magpies had won four home games in a row in all competitions prior to their defeat in the Champions League and will be looking to get back to winning ways at home on Saturday evening.

Last week's dropped points to Wolves leaves the Tyneside club six points behind the top four, but a win on Saturday would guarantee that gap being closed.

Newcastle have beaten Arsenal just once in the last nine meetings, with Howe coming out on top in just one of the six games he's managed against Arteta before.
