What is a bet calculator?

A bet calculator is a tool that works out how much you stand to win from any bet you place with a bookmaker or betting exchange. From a single to a 10-team football accumulator, the Talksport bet calculator can easily work it out for you. All you need to do is enter your stake, along with the odds on every selection from the best betting sites, and the bet calculator will do the rest. Simple.

Most Common Bet types

  1. Accumulator - A bet that consists of four or more selections. Also known as an acca bet, an accumulator can be made up of as many selections as you wish. Every selection has to be successful for the bet to win.
  2. Alphabet - A six-selection wager that consists of 26 bets. The 26 bets are made of two patents, one Yankee and a six-fold accumulator. Yes, that doesn’t equal 26 bets. But, the two patents are made up of 14 bets, and the yankee is eleven bets. Add them to the six-fold acca, and you have your 26.
  3. Canadian - The Canadian is a wager made up of five selections and 26 bets. The breakdown of the 26 bets is ten doubles, ten trebles, five four-folds and one five-fold.
  4. Double - A double bet is made up of two selections. Both selections have to win for your bet to be a winner.
  5. Double Stakes About - The double stakes about bet is an any-to-come bet made up of two selections in different events. It is a version of the up-and-down bet that relies on winnings from Part 1 to make up the stake of Part 2 of the bet.
  6. Each Way - A two-wager selection that is commonly used for horse or greyhound racing. Select two options in a race, and if they come first and second, the bet is a winner. As you are placing two bets, the wager would cost double the usual amount. Meaning a £1 each-way bet on two horses would cost £2.
  7. Flag - The flag bet is a wager on four selections made up of 23 bets. The 23 bets are six doubles, four trebles, one four-fold, and six up-and-down single-stakes-about (12xSSA) bets.
  8. Goliath - A goliath is 247 bets on eight selections made up of 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, eight seven-folds and one eight-fold accumulator.
  9. Goliath Flag - This is 303 bets on eight selections. It is the 247 bets found in a Goliath along with 28 up-and-down SSA pairs (56 bets).
  10. Heinz - Six selections made up of 57 bets. Included are 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, six five-folds and one six-fold accumulator.

  17. Round Robin - Three selections consisting of ten bets. The bet is made up of three doubles, one treble and three up-and-down SSA pairs (six bets).
  18. Single - A bet on one outcome. For example, a bet on a horse to win a race.
  19. Single Stakes About - An up-and-down two-part wager that needs sufficient funds from the first part to place on the second wager.
  20. Super Flag - A five-selection wager made up of 46 bets. Ten doubles, ten trebles, five four-folds, one five-fold, and ten up-and-down SSA pairs (20 bets).

How does a bet calculator work?

Using a bet calculator is easy. You will need to make a bet selection, which is simply the name of the bet you are placing (e.g., each-way, single, double, treble, handicap, etc.). If it’s an accumulator, you will need to enter how many selections you are placing in your bet.

Where it says "stake", you need to enter how much money you are placing, and you will also need to enter the odds of all of your selections. In the UK, that will be a specific fraction; on the other hand, European countries use decimal odds, and the US uses so-called money line odds, usually in the hundreds and thousands. The formula programmed into the calculator will take care of the rest and you'll get the potential payout

Most popular bet type in each sport

The easiest to understand and most popular bets to place tend to be singles and accumulators. But it can depend on which sport you are betting on for which bet is the most popular.

  • Football - Singles on match winners and Accumulators on multiple matches
  • Horse racing - Accumulators for betting on Cheltenham and Each-Way forecasts on individual races
  • Golf - Single bet on outright winner and each-way bet to finish in the top four or five (depending on which bookmaker you use)
  • Cricket - Single bet on outright match winner or top batter or bowler
  • Boxing - Single on the winner and bets on which round the fight will end in

While these are the most popular sports markets you can use bet calculators for, bets on sports like tennis, rugby, basketball, baseball, greyhounds, etc. are also calculable - you just need to know the odds from online bookmakers and the bet amount and the system will give you potential returns.

Advantages of using a bet calculator

If you want to try and win a particular amount of money while on a betting budget, a bet calculator is ideal. This would help if you are betting £10 and trying to win £100.

You don’t want to be adding more selections than you need to. So simply put in the odds of the selections you wish to bet on, add your stake, and if it comes to near what you are looking to win, you don’t need to add any more selections or stake any extra money.

FAQ

1. What bet type brings the most profit?

In my experience, an accumulator bet would bring in the most profit. Accumulators are cheap to place, you can bet with as little as one pound. You can also add as many selections as you wish. The more you add, the more you stand to win.

2. How accurate are the calculations from this free bet calculator?

If you enter the correct odds and stakes on the bet you wish to place, this free bet calculator should be 100% accurate.

3. Is there a bet calculator for football?

Bet calculators can work out the winnings for a bet on any sport. This can include horse racing or football, anything, so there is no need to have a specific bet calculator for football. A bet calculator covers all aspects of betting, they can even show you how much money it is possible to make from matched betting.

4. Can a bet calculator determine the probability of winning a bet?

If you place an accumulator bet that pays 400/1, the odds would be saying you have a one in four hundred chance of winning. But it is the odds that determine the probability of a bet winning, not the bet calculator. For example, a horse running at Cheltenham that was even money would have a 50% chance of winning. But you still have to select the bet, and the bet calculator can’t do that for you.

How to use a bet calculator?

Remember, using a bet calculator isn’t difficult. The fundamentals you need to know are:-

  • Bet type
  • Amount of selections
  • Odds for each selection
  • Stake money

Once you input all that information, the bet calculator does the rest of the work for you.
