Lazio vs Juventus predictions

Juventus supporters have had little to cheer over the last couple of months.

A victory over Inter in the first weekend of February would have put Max Allegri’s team in an excellent position in the Serie A title race. Instead, Juventus were beaten 1-0 at San Siro - and they are yet to recover from that result.

The Italian giants have now won only one of their last eight matches in the league. That solitary success was a scruffy 3-2 victory over relegation-threatened Frosinone, in which Juve notched the winning goal deep into second-half stoppage time.

They signed off before the international break with a disappointing and drab 0-0 home draw with Genoa. If they are not careful, Juventus could yet drop out of the top four.

Fifth place will probably be enough for Champions League qualification this term, and the Bianconeri have a healthy buffer of 12 points over Atalanta in sixth. But it is still important that they finish the season strongly.

Allegri’s future is very much uncertain. Under contract until the summer of 2025, the experienced manager has intimated that he is not prepared to enter the final year of his deal.

That means he either signs an extension in the summer, or Juventus make a change in the dugout ahead of next season.

Allegri always maintained that the Bianconeri were not title contenders in 2023/24. He would argue that any criticism aimed at his team for failing to keep pace with Inter is unjust.

But Juventus are the most successful club in Italian football and they cannot afford to limp over the line at the end of the season. If they do, it is hard to see Allegri being kept on for another year.

Lazio vs Juventus betting tips

Lazio will look to compound Juventus’ woes when the Bianconeri visit the Italian capital on Saturday.

Lazio to win - 2/1 (Betfred)

This is the first instalment in a triple-header of matches between Lazio and Juventus in April. After this Serie A contest, the two teams will meet in a two-legged Coppa Italia semi-final.

Lazio have a new manager in place following Maurizio Sarri’s exit before the international break. Igor Tudor, a former Juventus player and coach, has been handed the reins in the sky-blue half of the Stadio Olimpico.

Tudor performed well in his last job at Marseille, leading them to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 last season. He will now be looking to lift Lazio, who currently sit ninth in the Serie A standings, into a European qualification spot.

Sarri moved the team away from the back-three system favoured by his predecessor, Simone Inzaghi. Tudor is a manager who prefers a three-man defence, so we could see a return to that shape as early as Saturday.

Juventus have not been playing well of late. They have not won a Serie A match away from home since January 21. Their last three matches at opposition stadiums have yielded just a single point.

Lazio may benefit from the fabled ‘new manager bounce’ and, from a betting perspective, they look like good value.

Under 2.5 goals - 3/5 (BetUK)

Sarri’s resignation earlier this month came as a surprise, despite a four-game losing streak. According to Lazio owner Claudio Lotito, Sarri left because he was “betrayed” by his players.

One of Lazio’s main shortcomings this season has been putting the ball in the back of the net. They have done so just 36 times, a tally bettered by 18th-placed Frosinone.

Allegri, for his part, is not renowned for producing attack-minded teams that play free-flowing football. A cautious tactician by nature, his priority on Saturday will be to keep Lazio out.

Confidence is not particularly high within the Juventus camp right now and the uncertainty over Allegri’s future cannot be helping either.

Tudor will hope to make Lazio more effective in attack, but it will take time for the squad to get to grips with his demands.

With all that in mind, we should not expect a goal-laden affair at the Stadio Olimpico.

Ciro Immobile to score any time - 5/2 (Sky Bet)

Ciro Immobile made three Serie A appearances for Juventus at the beginning of his career, but Lazio is the club with whom he will always be most associated.

His 206 goals during eight years at the club makes him Lazio’s all-time leading scorer. Throughout his time in Roma, Immobile has averaged a goal every 127 minutes.

Tudor looks set to start Valentin Castellanos up top with Immobile against Juventus, so the latter should get plenty of support.

By his high standards, this has been a disappointing season for Immobile. He has scored a paltry six league goals up to now.

But the 34-year-old’s track record speaks for itself and it is surely only a matter of time before he is making the net ripple on a regular basis again.
