Arsenal return to league action on Sunday afternoon after earning a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in their first Champions League quarter final tie for 14 years on Tuesday night.

Attention now turns back to the Premier League for Mikel Arteta and his money, as they aim to keep their place at the top of the table in a bid to win what would be a first league title in 20 years for the north London side.

The Gunners head into the weekend top of the pile, with only goal difference separating themselves and Liverpool, while Manchester City sit just a point behind both of them in what is proving to be a breathtakingly tense title race this season.

The Gunners will be the last of the three sides to take the field this weekend so could be down in third by the time this match starts, piling the pressure on them against a strong Villa side who have already got the better of Arsenal once this season.

The north London side head into their clash having won 10 of their last 11 matches in the Premier League, winning each of their last six on their home patch.

Aston Villa have struggled for form in the Premier League in recent weeks, winning only one of their last five matches, but did find success in Europe in midweek with a 2-1 win over Lille in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter final.

Unai Emery's side's frequent dropping of points in the Premier League of late has seen them drop out of the top four, with Tottenham taking their place, though only goal difference separates the two sides heading into the weekend.

The West Midlands side make the trip to the capital winless in each of their last three matches away from home, a record they'll looking to put right as they attempt to keep pace with Tottenham in the battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Arsenal have won four of their last five matches against Aston Villa but did fall to defeat against the Villans back in December at Villa Park, though the West Midlands side have lost on six of their last seven visits to the Emirates Stadium.
