Celtic ended up winning the Premiership title once more by eight points having picked up straight victories in the second phase of the campaign.

Which amounted to five straight victories including over Rangers earlier this month 2-1 at Celtic Park, where the visitors managed just one shot on target and had to settle for just 32% of the possession.

But Celtic weren't as clinical as they could have been and a 2-1 score line against ten man Rangers was a good result considering the visitors had to play for 45 minutes without John Lundstram.

Rangers were therefore on the backfoot for all of the second half but might have more to say in this clash with a trophy on the line.

Celtic could have made it 3-1 quite quickly but missed a penalty, that was saved after a rather tame effort from 11 yards out.

They also had the ball in the back of the net twice but both times were ruled out quite quickly with the linesman flagging for offside.

That game helped Celtic on their way to secure the Premiership with just a couple of games to go and bridge a distinctive gap.

But there's always a different kind of game played when it's all to play for in a final.

Celtic won it last year over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, while Rangers won the Scottish Cup in the 2021/22 season 2-0 over Hearts.

Celtic have won the Scottish Cup five times in the last seven, but have yet to face their rivals in the final since 2001/02, when Rangers beat Celtic 3-2 in front of over 51,000 fans at this stadium.

Prior to their 2022 trophy Rangers hadn't reached the final since the 2016 renewal, but lost to Hibs 3-2.

And the Scottish Cup final often sees some decent score lines that keep the fans on the edge of their seats while also entertaining the neutrals.
