Portugal vs France prediction

Portugal struggled to really punish Slovenia on Monday in their Round of 16 clash.

And if it wasn't for the poor Slovenia penalties and the heroics of Portugal keeper Diogo Costa, they could have been crashing out of the Euros early on in the knockout stages.

Portugal were left frustrated after 120 minutes of football and no goals to show for their efforts, after holding 73% of the ball and getting 20 shots away, with six on target.

They won't be able to afford the same missed opportunities against France, who themselves narrowly defeated Belgium also on Monday evening.

But they were dominant and will be so again comfortably against Portugal, even though they've been struggling to get the goals themselves throughout.

• France to win, Kylian Mbappe to score - 100/30

France have scored just three times across their three group games and their Round of 16 clash against Belgium.

Goalless versus Netherlands and only scoring once in each, with only one being from a France player's shot, the other two were own goals.

They've been somewhat fortunate to reach this stage but so have Portugal.

France create plenty of chances but have just been lacking that decisive finish, much like their opposition.

But they dominate the ball and will do so commandingly so against Portugal and are likely to finally find a way through a defence that has been put through its paces and can easily be dismantled by the way France attack.

Mbappe out wide can make space for overlapping and central runners while the likes of Ngolo Kane and Aurelien Tchouameni can often sit on the outside of the box to pass it round looking for other routes of attack.

The latter nearly scored against Belgium from outside the box on Monday.

And it's likely to open up from one of these top players on Friday evening with Portugal unlikely to be able to handle the consistent pressure or counter attacks that are going to come their way.
