West Ham United 2024/25 EPL betting tips: What to expect from the betting markets?

West Ham United betting tips

David Moyes has departed and Julen Lopetegui is now calling the shots at the London Stadium. Can West Ham United return to Europe?

⚡My quick betting tip

⚽ West Ham United last season overview

In hindsight, Moyes should perhaps have bid farewell to West Ham United after guiding the club to the Europa Conference League trophy in 2022/23. The Scot probably outstayed his welcome at the London Stadium and many fans turned against him last season as West Ham were unable to challenge for European qualification.

They did still finish in the top half of the Premier League and reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, so it was hardly a disastrous campaign. Moyes did a fine job overall, but a pragmatic style of play was always at odds with what West Ham fans traditionally want to see. Still, history will judge him well.

⚽ West Ham United manager

Lopetegui was confirmed as West Ham United manager in May, so he has had plenty of time to get to grips with the squad he inherited. The Spaniard must be looking forward to getting his teeth into a project again after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers after just a few months at the helm. He successfully kept Wolves up in 2022/23 before leaving on the eve of the following season.

“I feel that we have a fantastic platform,” Lopetegui said after taking the job. “I think the last few years have been very good years to have this base, of course, but my ambition as a coach is always to be better and better, to achieve more and bigger aims and to encourage and improve the players, the team, and to compete because football is about this – to compete. We are very ambitious about this.”

⚽ West Ham United transfers

West Ham United have had a busy summer and the club’s owners cannot be accused of failing to back their new manager. At the time of writing they have spent a combined £117m on Nicklas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme, while Wes Foderingham and Guido Rodriguez have arrived on free transfers, and Jean-Clair Todibo on loan. Next through the door will be Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is on the verge of joining the club from Manchester United.

West Ham have bid farewell to Flynn Downes, Thilo Kehrer, Ben Johnson, Angelo Ogbonna and Said Benrahma, but they have managed to keep hold of Mo Kudus and Jarrod Bowen up to now. Kurt Zouma could be on his way out soon, although a move to the United Arab Emirates collapsed earlier this week.

⚽ West Ham United objective for the season

West Ham United have shown real ambition in the summer transfer market so far, raising hopes of a challenge for Europe. Given that eight teams could easily qualify for continental competition next season, there is no reason why West Ham cannot be involved in that conversation. Having said that, it could take a little time for Lopetegui to get his ideas across to a group of players who were used to a very different style under Moyes.

A top-half finish and a run into the latter stages of either the FA Cup or EFL Cup would be seen as a successful outcome by most West Ham fans, particularly if it is accompanied by the introduction of a more forward-thinking style of football.

⚽ West Ham United strengths

West Ham United have grown accustomed to playing in Europe in recent years. That is a good thing of course. No fan who witnessed the victory over Fiorentina in the 2023 Europe Conference League final will forget that night in Prague in a hurry. But being absent from Europe this season might not be a bad thing, allowing Lopetegui more days on the training pitch to build a side in his image.

With the aforementioned Summerville, Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme joining an attacking unit that already comprised Lucas Paqueta (more on whom below), Bowen and Kudus, West Ham should pack a punch going forward.

⚽ West Ham United weaknesses

For all that Moyes was supposed to be a defence-minded manager, his team conceded an awful amount of goals last season. Only the relegated trio of Sheffield United, Luton Town and Burnley had their backlines breached more often than West Ham United, who shipped 74 goals in total. Needless to say, they will not be able to challenge Europe without tightening up their rearguard.

Another worry for the Hammers is the shadow hanging over Paqueta, one of their best players. The Brazil international is facing the prospect of a lengthy ban after being charged with breaching betting rules.

💰 What do I bet on?

West Ham United to finish in the top half at 4/5 with bet365. The Hammers could be the best of the rest behind the big six plus Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
