Saturday's lunchtime kick off in the Premier League signals the start of a new era for both sides as Liverpool play their first competitive match since the departure of Jurgen Klopp as manager, with Arne Slot trusted to be the man to assume his mantle.

Ipswich, under the management of former Manchester United assistant boss Kieran McKenna, have enjoyed back-to-back promotions from League One to earn themselves a first season back in the top flight since suffering relegation in 2002.

Liverpool will make the trip to Suffolk as odds on favourites for victory in Slot's first match in charge of the Reds since his move from Feyenoord at the end of last season.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a mostly successful pre-season campaign with his new side, winning four of his six friendlies, recovering from an opening defeat to Preston by beating the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Sevilla, the latter coming last week in front of the Anfield faithful.

Heading into the opening weekend of the season, the Reds are currently the only side yet to make a single addition to their squad in the transfer market, despite having lost the likes of Thiago and Joel Matip from their roster at the end of last season.

Ipswich have prepared for their first top flight season in 23 years by making six new signings and spending just shy of £70m, which includes breaking their transfer record by making last season's loan signing of winger Omari Hutchinson a permanent one from Chelsea.

A large proportion of the Tractor Boys' squad were also part of the team who earned promotion from League One just over 12 months ago, but it seems McKenna trust his squad to make yet another big step up ahead of the new campaign.

The East Anglia side won three of their four pre-season friendlies, beating European opposition in the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk, Hoffenheim and Nice, losing out only to Fortuna Dusseldorf at the back end of last month.

The two sides haven't played each other in a competitive game since a League Cup fourth round tie back in 2002, in which Liverpool won on penalties at Anfield, but the last two league meetings between the sides ended in 5-0 and 6-0 defeats for Ipswich respectively.

In fact, Ipswich haven't won a home game against Liverpool since 1986.
