Croatia v Scotland predictions

Scotland make the trip to Zagreb on Saturday evening still looking for their first point of the current Nations League campaign, having conceded late winners in each of their opening League A fixtures so far, leaving them bottom of Group A1 ahead of the weekend.

Steve Clarke's men conceded a 97th minute winner in their opening match against Poland at Hampden Park last month before suffering the same fate in the 88th minute of their match against Portugal in Lisbon in their second game.

Zero points from two games leaves Scotland three points adrift at the bottom of the group as we approach the half way point of the latest Nations League campaign, leaving Clarke's men in need of collecting points, ideally three of them, from their next couple of matches.

After their trip to Zagreb, the Scots return to action on Tuesday night in Hampden Park for the visit of Portugal, making this weekend's match all the more important as they bid to avoid opening the campaign with four consecutive losses.

Clarke's men have found victories hard to come by recently, with the side having not won any of their last five, and their only win in their last 14 games came in a friendly win over Gibraltar before their unsuccessful Euro 2024 campaign.

Croatia head into Saturday's game off the back of a 1-0 victory over Poland in their last outing, ending a run of four matches without a win which saw them, like Scotland, exit the Euros last summer at the first hurdle.

Zlatko Dalic's side, who reached the final of the Nations League last time out, currently sit second in the group ahead of the latest couple of fixtures, which will see them travel to Warsaw to take on Poland on Tuesday looking to pick up maximum points from both games.

Croatia had been winless in their five matches against Scotland before their most recent meeting at Hampden Park in Euro 2020, when Dalic's side trumped Clarke's Scots 3-1, ending their hopes of reaching the knockout stage in the process.

Scotland have performed admirably in both of their League A fixtures so far but have come up just short, and Saturday's match could well see a similar result, leaving 2-1 to Croatia the most probable score line.

Croatia v Scotland betting tips

Scott McTominay has continued his rich vein of form in front of goal for Scotland over the last year or so, bagging in each of Scotland's last two matches and scoring three of the last four goals they have scored.

The Scot even bagged his first goal for new club Napoli last weekend against Como, so makes the trip to Zagreb in fine goalscoring form.

Croatia have a strong record in the Nations League in recent years having gone all the way to the final last time out, and will see Saturday's game as a big opportunity to close the gap on leaders Portugal at the top of Group A1.

In a hostile atmosphere, Croatia's quality should be too much for Scotland, who will be low on confidence after suffering two late defeats in their opening matches and without having tasted victory in a competitive game in over a year.

  • Scott McTominay to score - 39/10 at SBK
  • Croatia to win 2-1 - 8/1 at SBK
