Wealdstone vs Wycombe Wanderers predictions
The FA Cup does not tend to capture mainstream attention until the beginning of January, when teams from the Premier League and Championship enter the competition in the third round. But the tournament actually gets going all the way back in August, around 10 months before the final, with the extra preliminary round.
By the time the first round proper begins, typically in early November, most non-league entrants have fallen by the wayside. Many of those that remain are promptly dispatched by a team from League One or League Two.
Yet we are now into the second round proper and nine sides from outside the top four divisions are still standing. One more win this weekend and those modest clubs will be dreaming of a glamorous tie against Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City in the third round.
Wealdstone are a member of that group of nine. Their bread and butter is the National League, the fifth tier of the English game.
Wealdstone began their FA Cup adventure in the fourth qualifying round, where they beat Gosport Borough 4-1 in front of just over 1000 fans. That set up a clash with Grimsby Town of League Two in the first round.
Wealdstone were the underdogs, yet they triumphed 1-0 away from home to set up this weekend’s meeting with Wycombe Wanderers.
Wealdstone are struggling in the National League. They are outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone and could drop into the bottom four this weekend, when league games will be held alongside the FA Cup second round.
But Wealdstone, who are managed by the former Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United player Matty Taylor, will be fully focused on trying to cause another upset against Wycombe Wanderers, a team that are 66 places ahead of them in the pyramid. By way of comparison, that is the same number of places separating Liverpool and Cambridge United.
Yet upsets are what the FA Cup is all about, so Wycombe should not take anything for granted as they make the short trip to Grosvenor Vale, Wealdstone’s 4,085-capacity home ground.
Wealdstone vs Wycombe Wanderers betting tips
Wycombe Wanderers are aiming to avoid a shock defeat by Wealdstone in the FA Cup this weekend.
Wycombe -1.5 handicap
Wycombe Wanderers are flying right now. With 38 points to their name, they are the current League One leaders ahead of more fancied teams like Wrexham and Birmingham City.
Wycombe have won 12 and drawn two of their 16 league games to date, while they have also scored the most goals in the division and boast the largest goal difference. Their only two defeats came on matchdays one and two.
Matt Bloomfield is doing a fantastic job in what is only his second ever managerial role.

A Wycombe legend who made 558 appearances for the club as a player, Bloomfield was seen as the continuity candidate when he replaced the long-serving Gareth Ainsworth in 2023. Eighteen months on and he could be about to take Wycombe back into the Championship.
Bloomfield is also likely to lead the team into the third round of the FA Cup this weekend. Despite Wealdstone’s home advantage, Wycombe’s superior quality should tell.
⚽ Back Wycombe with a -1.5 handicap at 23/20 with SBK ⚽
Over 3.5 goals
Wycombe Wanderers’ promotion push is being fuelled by their attack. They hit 60 goals last season and have already managed more than half that amount in 2024/25, despite the fact we are barely a third of the way through the campaign.
Wycombe are averaging 2.5 goals per game in League One. Other teams have more resolute backlines, but Bloomfield’s men have managed to outscore most of their opponents.
There were more than 3.5 goals in their last FA Cup outing, a 3-2 triumph over York City in the first round. This bet would also have paid out in exactly half of their 16 league outings.
Wealdstone will be up against it in their bid to keep Wycombe out on Saturday. They may be better off fighting fire with fire and committing bodies to the final third whenever possible.
⚽ Tip over 3.5 goals at 7/5 with SBK ⚽
Richard Kone to score any time
Richard Kone is enjoying a wonderful season at Wycombe Wanderers.
Only Louie Barry of Stockport County and Kwame Poku of Peterborough United can better his return of nine goals so far.
It is quite the story. Kone joined Wycombe earlier this year having previously played for amateur outfit Athletic Newham in the Essex Senior League.
He first arrived in England in 2019, when he took part in that year’s edition of the Homeless World Cup.
Provided he is not rested, Kone will be able to show his class against Wealdstone.
