Tyson Fury will defend his WBC title against Dillian Whyte at Wembey Stadium, it has been confirmed.

The massive all-British clash will take place on April 23, which will see Whyte finally get the chance at a world title he has been craving.

He first became the mandatory challenger with a win over Oscar Rivas in 2019, but lost this position when he lost to Alexander Povetkin the following year.

After beating Povetkin in their rematch, he was later reinstated as mandatory.

Whyte did not agree a direct deal with the defending champion Fury when the fight was ordered and so it went to purse bids.

Fury’s UK co-promoter, Frank Warren won with a record bid of $41million (£30.6million) – confirmed to be the biggest purse bid in boxing history – while Eddie Hearn bid $32million (£23.9million).

“Tyson Fury coming home to fight under the arch at Wembley Stadium is a fitting reward for the No.1 heavyweight in the world following his exploits across the Atlantic in his epic trilogy against Deontay Wilder,” Warren said.

“The fact that this mandatory defence of his WBC title comes against another Brit only adds to the occasion. They are two of the biggest characters in British sport and both normally have plenty to say for themselves.

“It is going to be an incredible night and a huge occasion for sport in this country that will capture the imagination of fans right across the world.”

Fury cemented his position as champion with victory against Deontay Wilder in October in what was a battle for the ages.

“Tyson Fury conquered America, and it is only fitting that he defends the heavyweight championship in a packed Wembley Stadium," promoter Bob Arum said.

"Dillian Whyte has called for this fight for years, and while he is a deserving challenger, no heavyweight can match ‘The Gypsy King.’ This is going to be a momentous night of boxing with tens of thousands of fans in attendance at Wembley Stadium.”
