Tyson Fury is wary of Dillian Whyte’s left hook that could ‘knock out a bull’ and rocked Anthony Joshua, floored Joseph Parker and knocked out Derek Chisora

Tyson Fury is well aware that in heavyweight boxing it only takes one punch to change a fight, especially when you’ve got someone like Dillian Whyte throwing left hooks at your head.

Fury is a big favourite heading into his fight with Whyte, which is live on talkSPORT on Saturday night, but has noted in the build-up that ‘The Body Snatcher’ could knock him out at Wembley Stadium where 94,000 fans will be watching.

Prior to Wednesday’s press conference, Fury joined White and Jordan on talkSPORT to give an assessment of the danger his foe brings.

“The jeopardy is walking onto a big left hook that Dillian Whyte possesses that would probably knock over a bull,” he said.

“He has a real left hook on him that would knock out anybody if he catches them with it.”

Why is Fury so wary of Whyte's left hook? A brief look through his rival's CV tells you exactly why that punch is at the forefront of his mind.

ANTHONY JOSHUA

Whyte almost shocked the world when he landed his left hand on Anthony Joshua, who at the time was unbeaten and destined for greatness.

The two up-and-coming fighters met for the Commonwealth and British heavyweight titles in a December 2015 match-up that had some needle given the fact that Whyte had previously beaten Joshua during their days as amateur boxers.

After enduring a very tough first round, Whyte seemed to be on the verge of being taken out early before a short overhand landed flush on Joshua’s chin and temporarily turned the boxing world on its axis.

The unfancied underdog rushed in for the finish but was unable to get it and was ultimately beaten in the seventh round. Despite that, it was obvious Whyte’s left hand was a dangerous weapon and one that would take the heavyweight division by storm in the years to come.

LUCAS BROWNE

Whyte established himself as a true player at world level when he dismantled and dispatched of a former WBA (Regular) champion Lucas Browne in 2018.

Less than two years prior to their fight Browne had stopped Ruslan Chagaev to become world champ but he was no match for Whyte he seemed unstoppable.

By the sixth round, the Australian was spent and of course, it was Whyte’s hellacious left hook that ultimately sent the former world champion tumbling face-first to the canvas.

JOSEPH PARKER

The Jamaican-born Englishman scored two knockdowns against former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker when they squared off in 2019 and Whyte needed both of them to survive a late flurry from the New Zealander and eke out a decision win.

In the second round, the fighters came together and Whyte threw a short left hook that seemingly sent Parker crashing to the canvas, although on later inspection it appeared that a clash of heads led to the knockdown.

While some will say Whyte was lucky to score his first knockdown, the second time he dropped the former champ was as clean as it gets.

Another short left hand landed directly on the chin of Parker who amazingly made his way back to his feet and into the fight but couldn’t force the stoppage and ultimately fell to a unanimous decision defeat.

DEREK CHISORA

Whyte emerged victorious from one of the most exciting British heavyweight rivalries in years when he knocked Chisora out cold with a left hook in their second fight.

‘The Body Snatcher’ was pushed to the brink by ‘Del Boy’ in December 2016 before picking up a somewhat contentious split decision win following one of the best fights of the year.

A rematch seemed inevitable and finally took place in December 2018 with the two men once again putting on a fight for the ages but this one had a definitive ending.

Chisora was up on two of the three scorecards but they weren’t needed as Whyte landed a huge lead left hook to pick up one of the biggest wins of his career and add another epic KO to his already jampacked highlight-reel.

The 34-year-old was desperate to avenge his shock loss to ageing contender Povetkin and did so in style last March with the help of his signature punch.

After dominating the opening rounds Whyte was on the verge of stopping Povetkin in the fourth before he uncorked his left hook to send the 42-year-old Russian to the canvas and end the fight.
