‘Mini Mike Tyson’ Gervonta Davis knocked out Leo Santa Cruz with a stunning uppercut that stunned Conor McGregor, which explains why the Floyd Mayweather prodigy is nicknamed ‘Tank’

Standing at just 5ft 5.5in tall, Gervonta Davis does not cut the most intimidating figure, but his size could not be more misleading.
Davis has incredible power with a better knockout ratio than most of the top heavyweights in world boxing, including Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury.
Signed to Mayweather Promotions, Davis has the nickname 'Tank', which was coined by one of his amateur coaches due to his head being oversized in comparison to his body.
The nickname coincidentally fits very well when you consider 'Tank's' power-punching style, as he bulldozes through his opponents.
None more-so than Leo Santa Cruz, who Davis knocked out in stunning fashion in 2020.
It was a close fight through six rounds before Davis unleashed one of the most brutal uppercuts to ever grace a boxing ring that left Santa Cruz knocked out cold and sprawled against the ropes.
The shot even left the normally unfazed UFC star, Conor McGregor, concerned for the health of Santa Cruz, as he said, “My lord! What a vicious uppercut that was.
"Praying for the health and safety of Santa Cruz there. The young man “Tank” Davis has some serious venom in that back-hand shot. Incredible!”
Fortunately Santa Cruz recovered well, but he is not the only opponent who has faced the wrath of Davis' power, as he has previously used his knockout ability to get himself out of trouble.
When 'Tank' moved up to super lightweight last year to take on Mario Barrios, it was difficult to split the two until the eighth round when Davis dropped his opponent twice.
Barrios recovered well and to the shock of Davis, at the end of the ninth round Mayweather Jr told 'Tank' that he was down on the unofficial scorecard.
This prompted Davis to start throwing bombs and by midway through the 11th round he had stopped Barrios.
On Saturday night, Davis returns to the lightweight division to defend his WBA 'regular' title against Rolando Romero.
This is in line with Mayweather Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions' policy that they only want 'Tank' to fight in-house talent, but after this clash he will be running out of options.
With that being said, Davis is reportedly out of contract after this fight, which could open him up to fights with some of the lightweight divisions biggest names, such as Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.
The sharks are already circling, as Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing has expressed interest in signing Davis, so Mayweather Promotions will need to move fast if they want to hold on to their brightest star.
