Exclusive - Froch insists he will defeat Groves again

WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has told talkSPORT that he has done title challenger George Groves a favour by granting him a blockbuster rematch on May 31.

The pair have finally agreed to get in the ring again following the champion's controversial ninth-round stoppage victory last November.

Groves was furious with referee Howard Foster for halting the fight early when he led on the judges' scorecards and following an appeal the IBF ordered the Nottingham-born fighter to give Groves a rematch or relinquish his belts.

But despite 'The Cobra' effectively being forced to take the rematch, he told Drivetime: "I'm giving him another chance, another bite of the cherry. I never got that when I was coming through at his age, young, hungry, fresh and looking for a world title.

"So I'm giving the fans what they want, I'm giving George Groves another chance but let me tell you the result will be exactly the same, he's getting stopped.

Groves has already claimed the 36-year-old Froch is close to 'breaking point' but the champion insisted he will walk away victorious.

"I don't need to prove anything to the British public. I always try and do what I can for the British public, that's why this rematch is happening because I accepted the fight.

"I didn't need to accept the fight but I've done it because he's now mandatory [challenger] and I actually feel like fighting George Groves and beating him again and putting the whole saga behind me."
