Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis would be a huge clash that will undoubtedly split opinions, but Canelo is backing 'Tank' in the possible match up.

Before knocking Javier Fortuna down three times on his way to an impressive sixth round stoppage victory in July, Garcia revealed he wanted to fight Davis and his rival's team had already been in touch about making a fight between the pair next.

As of yet, no date has been announced nor is there any evidence of progress in negotiations, but Garcia's old teammate and mentor, Canelo, has weighed in on how he thinks the fight would play out should it ever come to fruition.

"It's a good fight for boxing," the super-middleweight champion said.

"I think Tank has got more experience. That's what I think, but in boxing you never know."

While experience is a fair attribute by which to judge this contest, it is also difficult to take what Canelo is saying without bias when you consider the feud currently brewing between himself and Garcia.

It all began after Garcia knocked out Luke Campbell in 2021 and then decided to take a break from the sport due to suffering with mental health issues.

This prompted Canelo to criticise Garcia for a lack of discipline and the young lightweight fighter hit back by predicting that Gennady Golovkin would beat the Mexican in their upcoming trilogy bout.

Canelo was not pleased with these comments and he expressed his displeasure on the DAZN Boxing Show, saying: “He’s just mad for something – he’s no longer in the team. He’s always going to be versus us no matter what.

“But he’s a little kid. He needs to learn a lot of things.

"My advice for him is to do your job, focus on your career, win a world championship first, then talk about other people.

“Because you’ve accomplished nothing and you start talking about fighters who’ve accomplished a lot. When I was 20-year-old I was a world champion.

“You can call out everybody and say and talk and everything but at the end of the day, you are doing nothing."

Garcia clapped back, telling : “What he said was just comical. ‘At 20 I was a world champion.’ He fought for a vacant title vs Matthew Hatton.

“I have a lot of good people in my division. I can’t just pick a Matthew Hatton and become a champion.”

The feud has even gone as far as attracting the attention of the self proclaimed 'Best Ever', Floyd Mayweather Jr, who surprisingly jumped to the defence of Canelo.

“You see Ryan Garcia,” Mayweather told . “First he’s praising Canelo, wanna learn from Canelo, in Canelo’s training camp. Now it’s all hate. Accomplish what Canelo has accomplished, then speak bad about him.

“One thing about Canelo, he’s gonna step up to the plate and do what he gotta do. He’s gonna fight. I can’t knock the motherf***** because he’s going down in the Hall of Fame.”
