Andy Ruiz reveals he wants Tyson Fury fight and Anthony Joshua trilogy as he hints at retirement date – but must get past former opponent of Deontay Wilder, Luis Ortiz

The first-ever Mexican heavyweight world champion, Andy Ruiz, is intent on making a bit more history before he calls it a career in four years’ time.
Back in 2019, Ruiz pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport when he knocked down Anthony Joshua four times on his way to a seventh-round stoppage victory to claim the WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight belts in New York.
In the rematch, however, Ruiz’s commitment was questioned, as he came into the fight 15lbs heavier than the first bout and Joshua comfortably boxed his way to a unanimous decision victory to win back the belts he’d lost a few months earlier.
Following his second career loss, the 32-year-old spent 18 months out of the ring, linked up with Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddie Reynoso and began working on his game and improving his physique beating Chris Arreola in his comeback fight.
On Sunday in Los Angeles, Ruiz will take to the ring in his toughest test since fighting AJ, when he clashes with former Deontay Wilder opponent, Luis Ortiz, who he expects to be in top form.
"After the long lay-off I had with knee surgery, we've been training really hard because we know damn well that Luis Ortiz is not going to be an easy fight," Ruiz told .
"This is why I wanted to pick a hard fight and a hard opponent. It's exactly why we picked Luis Ortiz.
"He's an older guy. This might be his last opportunity to step closer and get a title shot again. But I feel this is my time, my era, and I'm motivated.
Despite having a very tough task ahead of him, ‘Destroyer’ can’t help but look to the future and a potential fight with WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.
"I want to focus on four more years in boxing and give it all I've got, fight the top contenders," Ruiz added.
"I hope and pray that Tyson Fury doesn't retire because it would be an honour to fight him. It's a bucket list fight. It would be a blessing to fight him.
The 32-year-old also hopes to secure a third fight with Joshua, adding: "Everyone else has done a trilogy except for me and him.”
Fury is currently looking for an opponent for later this year after Oleksandr Usyk ruled out fighting ‘The Gypsy King’ for all the heavyweight belts in 2022.
Joshua will soon begin his journey back to title contention after suffering a second successive defeat to Usyk last month.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested his star client will return in December before taking on Dillian Whyte in a British stadium show next summer.
Ruiz would certainly be a great option for Fury and Joshua in the future but first, he has to get the win over Ortiz in LA and prove he is still an elite heavyweight.
