Deontay Wilder reveals that he will retire from boxing at age 40 as he arrives to support Luis Ortiz in fight with Andy Ruiz Jr

Deontay Wilder has announced that he's now set an exact timeline for when he will retire from boxing.

The former WBC heavyweight champion is currently preparing for his return following back-to-back defeats to Tyson Fury.

Wilder has confirmed that his comeback fight will take place on October 15.

He will face Finnish veteran Robert Helenius in this contest.

After that, big fights await him against the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua and the winner of Andy Ruiz Jr vs Luis Ortiz.

On Sunday night, Wilder attended this fight to support his former foe Ortiz.

He previously teased that he could meet the winner, even if that led to a trilogy fight with the man he previously KOd twice.

Before the main event, Wilder appeared on the FOX Sports PPV broadcast and gave an interview to preview the Helenius fight.

It was at this point that he confirmed he will retire from the sport in the not-too-distant future.

Wilder said on the FOX PPV broadcast : "I can tell you now by the end of [age] 40 I will be retired.

"I've got three years left."

Wilder is currently 36 years old, but will turn 37 next month, just a week after he faces Helenius.

The clock is ticking on his boxing career and he will no doubt want to make the most of the next three years.
