While Floyd Mayweather Jr continues to rake it in, his pound-for-pound successor, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, struggles to hit the same levels of financial gain.

On Saturday night, Mayweather Jr will engage in his fourth exhibition bout since retiring, against MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan, as he continues to live up to his nickname 'Money'.

Mayweather Jr revealed the huge purse he will be receiving from this next business venture , saying: "It's always a few million a minute.

"From this exhibition alone I will making somewhere upwards of $15-20million.

"That's just from this exhibition. So, it's cool. Nine minutes, $20m, not bad."

And it seems the money will continue to roll in for Mayweather Jr over the rest of the year and into 2023, as he has revealed that he is planning another exhibition in November in Dubai, with his opponent rumoured to be social media star, Deji.

This will be followed by a second clash with Conor McGregor next year, which is reportedly at the stage of final negotiations - the last time the pair met, Mayweather Jr went home with around $300m.

With that being said, the self-proclaimed 'TBE' [The Best Ever] has made it clear that he will only be taking fights with opponents who do not pose the threat of realistically being able to harm him.

"I make great money from these exhibitions but, like I told you, I am not taking any abuse," Mayweather Jr said.

"If they were doing some bodily harm I would have to walk away completely. I am not going to put myself in a position where I am getting brutally beaten or I am taking punishment.

"It's about working smarter, not harder, and I am getting smarter in life," the unbeaten great added.

"I had a great career because the less you get hit the longer you last.

"As long as I am not taking any punches, I am going to keep doing exhibitions and have fun."

While Mayweather Jr is still enjoying huge financial rewards in the ring, the man who took over from him as the new face of boxing, Canelo, has been struggling of late in terms of pay-per-view sales.

His trilogy bout with Golovkin, reportedly only did 550-575,000 buys, which is down significantly from the first contest, which did 1.3m, and the rematch, which sold 1.1m.

"The dynamics of pay-per-view and the dynamics of cable has changed drastically recently," Mayweather Jr said, as he reacted to the reports around Canelo vs Golovkin 3's pay-per-view numbers.

"You know, record-breaking numbers have changed. I just got the feedback from the Canelo fight and somebody sent me an article and he only got 500,000 homes.

"That's very, very low. For a fighter like Canelo it should be at the very top. It should be doing at least a million homes.

"So, it's changed drastically. With Logan Paul I was able to do over a million homes so that was good.

"Pay-per-view has changed drastically and people are finding a way to watch the fight without paying. It really hurts the fighters."
