Nate Diaz picked up a win in his first fight since leaving the UFC as he flattened the San Francisco 49ers mascot earlier this week.

Diaz secured a fourth-round submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September before announcing his intention to leave the UFC after 15 years with the fight promotion.

On Monday, arguably the most sought-after free agent in sport visited Levi's Stadium to watch an NFL match between the 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams.

During his trip, Diaz bumped into the San Francisco team's mascot, Sourdough Sam, and playfully dropped him with one punch before taking his belt and putting it over his shoulder while laughing about the exchange.

The 37-year-old MMA icon took a more playful approach than former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, who was accused of breaking a mascot’s jaw in 2018 when punching him as part of a TV stunt gone wrong.

While appearing on the Spanish-speaking station, Nacion ESPN, ahead of his first fight with Tyson Fury, Wilder punched a man in a burrito costume as hard as he could.

The man many believe to be among the hardest hitters in boxing history dropped the mascot to the floor with one shot and footage from the incident quickly went viral.

It was later confirmed that no serious injuries were in fact suffered by the man who was wearing a giant burrito costume, but Wilder apologised regardless and invited him to his upcoming fight.

Earlier this year, we saw another boxer mercilessly take out a mascot with one punch when Jake Paul landed big on Clutch, who represents the NBA side, the Houston Rockets.

Paul was seated courtside when ‘confronted’ by the mascot who was wearing oversized boxing gloves and seemingly trying to goad the YouTuber-turned-boxer into a fight.

The 25-year-old left his seat and quickly landed a right hand on the cocky mascot, who fell face first to the floor, posting later he ‘Will Smith’d ’em’.

The comedic interaction saw the crowd entertained and even though Clutch was eventually carried out of the arena it’s safe to say Paul caused considerably less damage than Wilder did.

While Diaz and Paul have both picked up wins over mascots in 2022, they are hoping to face off against each other in the near future.

‘The Problem Child’ must first get by UFC legend Anderson Silva, who he’ll face in a 187lb catchweight clash on October 29.

Diaz is currently a free agent and is intent on stepping into the squared circle for the first time after bringing his legendary UFC run to an end last month.
