Floyd Mayweather speaks out for first time on Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis leaving Mayweather Promotions as he gives surprising response
Floyd Mayweather has wished Gervonta Davis well after his split from Mayweather Promotions.
The 50-0 retired boxing great bears hard no feelings towards the 28-year-old lightweight star who has now left the company to go on his own with the guidance of advisor Al Haymon.
Over the past few years of working together, Floyd and Gervonta are known to have butted heads on a number of occasions.
There had been rumours of a fractious relationship between the pair who sometimes appeared close, while at other times fired not-so-subtle shots at one another in public.
Now, their working relationship is over and Mayweather told : "I've always been a gentleman, I've always been respectful.
"There's nothing like taking a kid that comes from the same background as you, helping them and putting them in a position to become a multi-millionaire.
"You meet a kid, he comes up to you for an autograph.
"You sign the autograph for him, then tell him, 'In a few years when you get older, I'mma work with you and I'mma make you world champion some day.'
"Years later I started working with him, helped him, pushed him to be great.
"If he feels he's grown wings where he can fly and be his own boss, more power to him."

Floyd added: "I didn't get into the sport of boxing after I retired to not wanna see fighters grow.
"If he feels like he can surpass Floyd Mayweather or be the next Floyd Mayweather, go for it. I'm here to push you."
