Nate Diaz may have left the UFC but his rivalry with Conor McGregor is still as intense as ever.

They first fought at UFC 196 in March 2016 and Diaz picked up a shocking second-round submission win over the previously unbeaten featherweight champion who jumped up to welterweight for their fight.

‘Notorious’ got his revenge at UFC 202 in August of the same year when he outworked Diaz over the course of five rounds to earn a majority decision victory.

Despite the clamour of fight fans, a trilogy bout between the pair is yet to happen and is unlikely to after the American decided to leave the UFC last year.

McGregor followed his win over Diaz up with a dominant display against Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title and become the first dual-weight champion in company history.

The Irishman went on to make $100 million fighting Floyd Mayweather in his boxing debut in 2017 and, although he was stopped on his feet in round ten, McGregor impressed many with his performance against ‘The Best Ever.’

Six years later, boxing legend Mike Tyson is still in awe of what McGregor managed to achieve against such an accomplished boxer.

He said on The Hotoxin podcast: “Conor McGregor never really had a boxing match in his life right? Never really had a boxing match. He went ten rounds with the greatest fighter in the last 100 years of boxing.”

“He went ten rounds, scored punches on the greatest fighter in the last 100 years. People just wanna see the black guy beat the white guy, but look what he had to fight against. Look what he did when he fought against it.”

After Tyson mentioned his rival, Diaz couldn’t resist reminding the world of his rear-naked choke submission victory over ‘Mystic Mac’

He tweeted: “I took him all the way out in about eight minutes right before that - what does that tell you? Finished dead.

Diaz is expected to make his boxing debut in 2023. The 37-year-old has been linked to fights with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Jake Paul since leaving the UFC.

It’s currently unclear if he’ll ever return to MMA’s Premier League to settle his rivalry with McGregor once and for all.
