Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr rematch officially confirmed for September 2 in Manchester

Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr will meet in a middleweight rematch on September 2 at the Manchester Arena, live on talkSPORT.
Six months ago, the pair squared off and started 2023 with a bang as Smith dramatically knocked Eubank Jr out for the first time in his boxing career.
Eubank Jr was initially set to fight Benn in October 2022.
However, Benn twice tested positive for clomifene in two VADA drugs tests and so the bout was prohibited from happening just days before it was due to place.
This led Eubank Jr to face Smith instead and he was dramatically stopped inside four rounds.
The defeated man then activated his rematch clause to force a second bout, but also re-entered talks to potentially reschedule his showdown with Benn.
Eubank Jr's promoter Kalle Sauerland is understood to have been in discussions with Ben Shalom's BOXXER for a rematch with Smith on Sky Sports, and Eddie Hearn's Matchroom to do the Benn fight on DAZN.
However, Benn's drugs testing situation remains unresolved as his UKAD case is ongoing and so Eubank Jr has now decided to press ahead with the Smith rematch instead.
Smith reacted: "I'm glad that the date is set now and we can look forward to getting rid of this itch that needs scratching.
"I'm fully healed up now, injury-free, and I'm looking forward to finishing Chris Eubank Jr's career on September 2."
Eubank Jr added: "No more excuses, no more postponements. Smith can’t run forever. September 2 is the day of my revenge."
