It seems Floyd Mayweather is never far away from Jake Paul’s mind.

‘The Problem Child’ has spent the last few months training for a fight with Nate Diaz at his Puerto Rico gym with boxing legend and Hall of Famer Shane Mosely.

However, having a coach who has fought Mayweather isn’t the only reminder of his infamous run-in with ‘Money’.

In DAZN's recent documentary previewing the build-up to his fight with Diaz, footage caught a glimpse of a sign emblazoned with the words ‘GOTCHA HAT FLOYD’ hanging in his gym.

This is in reference to their May 2021 run-in when Mayweather was preparing for an exhibition with Paul's older brother, Logan, in Miami.

The rivals shared an intense but amicable staredown before the retired five-weight world champion went off to one side of the stage to speak with various media outlets.

Jake, who was on cloud nine following a recent knockout win over UFC star Ben Askren, approached Mayweather and the two were soon bickering.

Then the younger Paul brother snatched Mayweather’s cap from his head and ran knowing he was in a world of pain if caught.

Mayweather, one of the finest boxers of his generation who retired with a 50-0 record, is never without an entourage of bodyguards paid to protect him at all costs.

And they caught up with Paul, resulting in a mass brawl.

The 26-year-old was dragged from the melee looking a little worse for wear, but continued to taunt Mayweather who reacted angrily to ‘disrespect’ as Paul continued to shout ‘gotcha hat.’

The scenes went viral and Paul even brought out merchandise with the phrase on to mock Mayweather further.

Mayweather was filmed storming off, absolutely livid with the events that had just transpired, however, Paul was much more relaxed about the situation.

He tweeted: "Honestly have had three easy fights as a pro so been itching for some real action.

"One of Floyd’s 30 bodyguards got a clean shot on me in the eye RESPECT!!"

Earlier this year, Paul was seen running away from Mayweather and his entourage in a video he later claimed was a PR stunt.

It appears they are on much better terms and the possibility of them actually fighting is close to zero as the 26-year-old is now a 6-1 professional.

It's a career he is taking seriously, as he discussed the impact a second successive loss could have on his career with talkSPORT.

"Mike Tyson says you only fail once you quit and it's true.

"It's just a matter of whether I want to do this and having the motivation to be in the gym and make this sacrifice.

"I have so many things in my life, I run a venture capital firm, I run a $300 million sports gaming company, we just launched Betr picks, Most Valuable Promotions - there's so many other things.

"But, boxing has my heart and I don't think I'll ever just hang the gloves up."
