Parker earned 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108 scorecards from the ringside judges, but he almost took the fight out of their hands in round eight.

The New Zealander backed his opponent against the ropes before uncorking a massive overhand right that seemed to signal the beginning of the end for Wilder.

Ringside footage of the punch shows the devastating impact it had.

Parker followed up with a flurry of shots, but Wilder managed to see out the round and ultimately survive a few more during his third professional boxing loss.

In defeat, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ scuppered a planned fight with Anthony Joshua, who impressively stopped Otto Wallin in the night's main event.

Wilder was upset but not disheartened by his poor performance.

"We came out short tonight,” he said in a video on .

"You know what, I don’t know what happened, to be honest.

“My timing was off, and I didn’t throw my punches, I didn’t let my hands go like I was supposed to. Sometimes you get like that. But you live to see another fight. You live to see another moment.”

“I’m still full of happiness, still full of joy, still full of smile. Sorry if I let anyone down but we will be back though! That’s the thing about it, you know.”

Parker was unconcerned about the big fights awaiting him in 2024 and instead took time to thank WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for all his help.

"Tyson Fury gave us his time with sparring and was massively important,” he revealed during his post-fight interview.

"A lot of respect to Wilder, a dangerous and tough fight but we trained very hard for this.

"Everyone had other plans, but this was God's plan. The strategy was to stay calm and relaxed, switched on for every second.

"We got the win today, so Merry Christmas to us."
