Canelo Alvarez believes there would be no upside to facing David Benavidez with a rehydration clause.

Alvarez elected to next take on Jaime Munguia on his May 4 'Cinco De Mayo' outing, despite being called out by undefeated challenger Benavidez for a potential mega-fight.

WBC 'interim' belt-holder Benavidez has insisted he is open to a rehydration clause, given concerns over the size difference between the pair, to push a fight deal through.

But Canelo has insisted that the clause could be used as an excuse for his rival if he wins in dominant fashion.

When asked about this, the Mexican superstar told : “And then what? You’re going to talk about that clause.

"When I beat him, they’re going to say that I put that clause. I want nothing to do with that fight.

"Yeah, it’s a lose-lose situation because after the fight, they [Team Benavidez] are going to talk about, ‘Because of this.’

"I can fight with any fighter and win my good money. I can do whatever I want at this time because I deserve it.

"I did everything in my career, and I deserve to be in this position. I’m going to do whatever I want."

Benavidez has a significant size advantage over the undisputed champion, standing at 6ft 2ins in comparison to Canelo who stands at 5ft 8ins.

Naturally, Benavidez also weighs heavier than the champion so would be open to a rehydration clause to restrict the gap on fight night itself.

But a clash between the pair currently seems highly unlikely, with the champion suggesting it would take him a guaranteed purse of $150 million to consider the showdown.

Benavidez's team claimed a $55 million offer had already been tabled to the Mexican, which his trainer Eddy Reynoso went on to firmly deny.

For now, it appears the boxing world will need to wait patiently to see if a deal can be agreed in the future.
