‘I need to be true with myself’ – Canelo Alvarez makes U-turn on boxing retirement plans
Canelo Alvarez insists he will not pursue a career in professional golf after hanging up his gloves.
The Mexican superstar is not only one of the best boxers in the world - he is also a keen golfer.

Over the last few years, Canelo has been developing his game on the golf course, competing in celebrity tournaments and amateur competitions.
But the former pound-for-pound king, who had previously teased the idea of going for a pro card in golf, now affirms that he doesn't intend for it to be anything more than a hobby.
When asked if he is eyeing a career in golf, Canelo told : "No. I just want to play tournaments for fun...
“I really enjoy golf, but to be a golfer, you need to start really young. I need to be true with myself. I'm going to enjoy golf a lot.”

This comes after Canelo said of his plans in the sport, last year: "After three or four more years boxing.
"So I can add more to my legacy before my place in the sport is judged by others...
"We’ll see. It would be amazing if I could make the [PGA] Tour. Fantastic if I ever got to play in a major.
"Almost everyone says it can’t be done because I started the game so late."

Canelo is coming to the back end of his 64-fight (60-2-2) pro boxing career.
The 33-year-old recently admitted that he intends to walk away from the sport by the time he turns 37.

He is set to step into the ring next on May 4 against Jaime Munguia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo will be defending his undisputed super-middleweight crown for the fourth time since picking up the final piece of the puzzle - the IBF 168lb strap - against Caleb Plant in November 2021.
This bout comes as part of a new one-fight deal for Canelo with Al Haymon's PBC and will be shown live on Amazon Prime PPV.
