‘Give the fans a fair fight’ – Devin Haney gives reason for Ryan Garcia loss and asks for rematch on new terms

Devin Haney has insisted that Ryan Garcia missing weight played a part in his defeat.
Haney was set to meet Garcia for the WBC super-lightweight title, but Garcia missed the 140lbs limit and a deal was thrashed out at the eleventh hour to save the clash.
The fight didn't go as planned for the champion who suffered the first defeat of his professional career, being dropped three times by Garcia en route to a points loss.
In a social media post following the loss, Haney said he believes second meeting should happen but on a level playing field with both fighters at an agreed weight.
The caption read: "I came up short but this is boxing, and if anyone knows me they know that I am a true competitor, and always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world.
"Ryan, despite the circumstances was victorious that night and that’s fine. I do feel like weight played a role in it but only Allah knows.
"I would love to run it back and give the fans a FAIR fight within an agreed weight.
"With that being said, I am currently enjoying time with my family & friends as well as making up my days of Ramadan.
"Thank you to all my supporters & everyone involved in making this event happen."
Garcia verbally agreed to a rematch with Haney in the immediate aftermath of his win, but it remains to be seen if it can take place.
Haney dismissed claims he had broken his jaw on the night, and revealed he could still return to the ring before the end of 2024.
As a result of Garcia missing weight, 'The Dream' did retain his world title belt, and could still look to unify if a sequel with 'King Ry' fails to materialise.
Garcia also has his eye on a redemption shot of his own against Gervonta Davis, to whom he lost by stoppage in 2023.
It is almost certain that the challenger will move up in weight after his struggles, which could include a run at 147lbs.
