Canelo Alvarez ‘in talks’ for stunning fight with Chris Eubank Jr as Briton in ‘pole position’ to land undisputed title date

Chris Eubank Jr could be set to receive a stunning title shot against Canelo Alvarez.
Eubank Jr hasn't been in action since getting his rematch win over Liam Smith in September 2023, and is now a promotional free agent.
The Briton has always been keen to take pursuit of a world title shot, and planned a showdown with Terence Crawford but talks came to no avail.
However reports have indicated that Eubank Jr is in shock pole-position to land a shot against undisputed 168lbs champion Alvarez.
ESPN reporter Salvador Rodriguez claim that negotiations are already underway, and he is the primary option ahead of potential rivals Edgar Berlanga and Jermall Charlo.
It was expected that Alvarez will return on September 14 as traditional on the Mexican Independence Day weekend.
But this could now be pushed back as to not clash with UFC's plotted show in new Las Vegas venue The Sphere, which is being targeted for September 14 by Dana White.
Eubank Jr has always targeted a shot at the pound-for-pound contender, but has always come up short to other rivals.
But he could now be in a surprise opportunity, which could elavate his career to new levels if he is to become a shock undisputed champion.
Of course the Mexican would be the favourite to defend his titles, but the Briton will be a rugged operator who is capable of producing a top-level display if he is at his best.
Talks over Alvarez's next outing have been relatively quiet since the 33-year-old defeated Jaime Munguia to defend his titles on 'Cinco De Mayo' weekend.
But now it appears his future could be clarified in the coming weeks, with any training camp set to begin before the end of the month.
'Next Gen' has never reigned as a world champion in his career, and has stated is key objective he wants to complete before retirement.
He has waited for several months for a showdown with domestic rival Conor Benn, but it appears that is in the past for now.
And his father and boxing legend Chris Eubank previously suggested a fight with 'Canelo' is the one to make to cement his legacy in the squared circle.
He told talkSPORT: "Let's get to the point, Canelo is the only person he's gonna be able to fight now to redeem any type of respect from the fighting public.
"Real fighters, real boxing people. I know how you win respect, it's not beating a Liam Smith.
"Junior, this is what my view is - your saving grace is going to be Canelo. You're never gonna get back down to 160lbs, I won't allow that to happen anyway.
"You're a 168lbs fighter, Canelo is your way to win respect and you cannot beat him, not Canelo.
"The only way you can beat him is if daddy is next to you. That's it."
Fans are keen to see Alvarez fight long-term rival David Benavidez, but it appears to be off the table for now.
A planned showdown against Crawford in 2025 could be on the cards if he beats Eubank Jr, with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh interested in staging the contest.
