Boxing news: Exclusive – Tony Bellew reveals he’s targeting heavyweight title

Tony Bellew has revealed to talkSPORT he is returning to the ring and will try to win a heavyweight title.
The Bomber, 34, who beat David Haye at the O2 Arena in March, had contemplated retiring following their bout, in which he broke his hand.
But now the Liverpool-born boxer is set to come back and battle it out for a belt with the very best in the division.
Asked what his plans for the future were, he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “Do you know what? I’m going to be totally honest. I like the sound of Tony Bellew heavyweight champion of the world.
“I’m coming back. I’ve run it passed the missus, she’s allowed me to have a couple more [fights].
“I’m just going to roll with the punches, we’re going to see. Eddie Hearn will make a decision after we’ve sat down once again - we’ve sat down about 20 times this week and every time a different decision is made.
“There are so many options on table and it’s a good position to be in but ultimately I am going to continue fighting and the heavyweight championship of the world is tag which is too lucrative, and too heavy to pass up.
“I don’t want to sound pompous or up my own backside but financially the kids are secure, and the missus is secure, and I feel like I have done my job. I’m not fighting for money anymore. I didn’t want to give up and in two years’ time look back on it and think, ‘could I have won the heavyweight championship of the world?’
“If truth be known, I’m only getting better with age. I know that sounds silly but I think I must be the only guy in the world who is getting a better as he gets a little bit older.
“I want to know if I’m good enough to win the heavyweight championship of the world. If I am then that’s great, if I’m not at least I can put my head on the pillow and say I had a go - the fat boy from Liverpool tried his best and it just wasn’t quite good enough.”
