Ryan Garcia will return to the ring against Rolly Romero in one of the strangest events in boxing history in the heart of New York tonight.

Three of the sport’s biggest US stars have snubbed iconic locations such as Madison Square Garden to fight outdoors in Times Square.

The streets of Manhattan will become the ring for ‘Fatal Fury,’ an event featuring Garcia, Devin Haney, and Teófimo López.

A ring has been built in the centre of the iconic Times Square, which forms a junction between 42nd Street, Broadway and 7th Avenue.

His promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, claimed his Golden Boy Promotions expects 'half a million people, for free' to watch the historic card.

Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson has confirmed his attendance for a new role as a guest analyst at the New York landmark.

Meanwhile, Conor Benn has also admitted he will be in the Big Apple to challenge Garcia following his defeat to Chris Eubank Jr.

How will Ryan Garcia's fight be set up?

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has revealed that a small venue of only a few hundred seats will be constructed in Times Square.

The new Ring Magazine boss has reserved these for invite-only guests, meaning fans on the street won't be able to watch ringside.

Instead, screens will be placed on the outside of the venue to broadcast the event for free to those in Times Square on fight night.

Outdoor events mean promoters are at the mercy of the weather, with De La Hoya already wary of the threat of rain.

He told : “One thing about us, we’re always a little sceptical of doing outdoor events. Because you never know – the rain, the weather.”
