Exclusive - Scott Quigg: Unification bout with Carl Frampton will see two champions in their 'prime'

WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg believes both himself and Carl Frampton are in the ‘prime’ of their careers ahead of their unification fight in February.

Both fighters’ belts, including Frampton’s IBF title, will be on the line when the two go toe-to-toe in Manchester on February 27.

Quigg, 27, is convinced the bout offers fans a unique opportunity to see two world champions at their best in the same ring, unlike this year’s highly-anticipated but ultimately anticlimactic showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

“The fans are going to see two world champions in their prime,” Quigg told Hawksbee and Jacobs.

“Mayweather and Pacquiao happened three years too late, Carl and I are in our prime and I am confident of winning.

“It’s two of the best in the world willing to put it on the line. We both need respect because we don’t need to fight each other but we want to see who’s best.

“I’m expecting the toughest fight of my career but I know my best beats his best.”

Frampton instigated an early war of words between the two fighters,

But Quigg remains unfazed by any animosity, claiming any jibes are part and parcel of the sport.

He added: “We are enemies at the minute. At the end of the day I’m expecting a few little snide comments here and there.

“If I’ve got anything I want to say I’ll come back but to me it’s just water off the duck’s back.

“I just sit back and watch the entertainment go on.”
