Boxing news: WBC confirms ‘ultimate goal’ is for Anthony Joshua to face winner of Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury fight

Britain's reigning world heavyweight champion is missing just the prestigious green belt from his illustrious collection

Anthony Joshua appears set to face the winner of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury's title fight after the WBC declared it their 'ultimate goal'.

Fury is currently in America in the shape of his life preparing to face the undefeated brawler on December 1 for the chance to claim the one belt he missed out on in 2015.

The 6"9 star defeated Wladimir Klitschko in his own back yard with a convincing points victory to claim all but one of the world heavyweight titles.

And, should he repeat the feat against Wilder, could be set for a pulsating clash with 'AJ' in 2019.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told  “The WBC convention was very clear in terms of looking for the ultimate goal [for] the winner of the fight to do the fight with Anthony Joshua.

"Our ruling was clear to state that if that fight is to proceed, to go in that direction then the mandatory [situation] will be solved. That’s been clear and that’s been put on paper in black and white.

“Because that’s our obligation, we have to support it. That is a fight the world wants to see.

"However Wilder-Fury is a major fight in itself. That fight is as big as any fight. I’m very happy at the moment we’re going through in the heavyweight division."

Joshua is currently waiting to announce his next opponent after defeating Alexander Povetkin in September with a seventh-round stoppage.

There had been talks of a rematch with Dillian Whyte at Wembley, provided his former foe can repeat his success against Dereck Chisora.

However, it would appear the 29-year-old could instead be set to face however the WBC champion is come December 2.

Fury and Joshua have often traded insults on social media, but a fight between the two seems genuinely close to coming to fruition.

Although he is the betting underdog going into the clash, many are convinced he can pull off an upset at the Staples Centre given his awkwardness and incredible new physique.
