Joseph Parker declares he wants Dereck Chisora next to earn rematch with Dillian Whyte
The New Zealander lost a narrow decision to ‘The Body Snatcher’ last year
Joseph Parker is targeting Dereck Chisora on his comeback trail after losing twice in 2018.
The former WBO heavyweight champion was beaten for his belt by Anthony Joshua last March before then sharing a thriller with Dillian Whyte in which he also came out the loser.
Whyte knocked the New Zealander down twice before then being dropped and almost stopped himself in a dramatic final round. The Brit was awarded a narrow decision victory.
Looking back on the fight, Parker told talkSPORT Fight Night: “It was a very close fight and I would love the opportunity to rematch and to fight him again.
“I know I have to take steps to get back to the top and to get back to that level.”
Last week Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn stated that he would like to bring Joseph Parker back to the UK on Whyte’s next undercard on April 20.
His ideal opponent was Dereck Chisora, a fight that makes perfect sense to the 27-year-old.
“I think at the moment my team is focussing on Chisora,” Parker continued.
“There’s other options, but I think that’s the one that sort of stands out to us at the moment.
“I think as long as it makes sense for both teams I’m happy to go ahead.
“I’m ready for war. I know he likes to go to war.
“I think that throws me straight into the mix again. Chisora’s a guy who’s been around for a long time, got a lot of experience.
“And, you know, the performance he put in with the last fight against Dillian Whyte – he looked good.
“He looked like the pressure that he put on, the punches that he threw, he was actually leading on the cards before he got knocked out.
“As a fighter, it looks like he’s got a second wind in his career.”
