Wladimir Klitschko comeback not happening; confirmed to be ‘just an April Fools’ joke’ from Ukrainian outlet

He remains retired… at least for the time being

Wladimir Klitschko has NOT agreed a $120million, three-fight deal to make a comeback in May.

A report emerged on Monday morning (April 1) from Ukrainian news outlet ‘Sport Arena’ suggesting that the former heavyweight champion had struck an agreement with DAZN and would return on May 25 in Kiev, Ukraine.

This story was taken with great scepticism due to the fact it was published on April Fools’ Day, and yet still gathered a great deal of worldwide traction.

Now however, a day later, ‘Sport Arena’ have confirmed they were just joking after all.

In an article rounding up the day’s best April Fools’ pranks, the Ukrainians : “Perhaps Wladimir will return to the ring, but the date and place of the battle is for now just a joke of ‘Sport Arena.’”

The report even reached British shores, with heavyweight contender David Price reacting to the ‘news’ on talkSPORT and even putting himself forward as a potential comeback opponent for Klitschko.

Price will be disappointed to learn that no such opportunity is forthcoming.
