Boxing news: Tyson Fury vs ex-Anthony Joshua opponent Charles Martin ‘a real possibility’ says promoter Bob Arum

Tyson Fury is now seemingly getting close to confirming his next fight, with former Anthony Joshua opponent Charles Martin touted to be in the opposite corner.

It was reported last week that the bout was a possibility with Fury’s new US broadcaster ESPN wanting an American opponent for his final contest before the eagerly anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder next year.

After signing with ESPN, Fury stopped Tom Schwarz in June, and will now return in September.

Regarding what’s next for the Brit, co-promoter Bob Arum told : “We’re gonna decide that. That will come together by Wednesday. We’ll have an announcement."

When asked about the rumours of Martin being the opponent, he replied: “It’s a real possibility.

“Al [Haymon] is talking to Charles Martin about the fight and it looks like that could come together.

“Martin would be a credible opponent for Fury.”

‘Prince’ Charles Martin is well known to British fans for his 2016 fight with Anthony Joshua.

Martin picked up the IBF heavyweight belt by virtue of a fluke when his opponent in the vacant title bout – Vyacheslav Glazkov – suffered an injury in round three.

The American then travelled to England for a first defence against AJ and talked a big game pre-fight, famously declaring: “I walk this earth like a god.”

However, he soon was made to eat his words as Joshua knocked him out in two rounds to take his world title.
