Gennady Golovkin and Eddie Hearn confirm link-up – could it lead to Billy Joe Saunders fight?

Gennady Golovkin has joined forces with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom - boosting the possibility of a showdown with Billy Joe Saunders.
The Kazakh's company, GGG Promotions, and Matchroom have agreed a deal to work together to promote future events.
The partnership will begin with Golovkin vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF world middleweight title on October 5 at Madison Square Garden in New York, which will be shown live on DAZN.
“My promotion company and I are happy to partner up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom to bring the fans what they want – the best boxing and the best events," said Golovkin, who relinquished his WBC, WBA and IBF titles with defeat to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in their rematch last September.
"By teaming up with Matchroom, we stress that GGG Promotions is committed to presenting the biggest events in the most important arenas. I’m always happy to work with the best in business, and I’m looking forward to what this collaboration will bring to the boxing fans.

Hearn added: “It’s an absolute honour to be involved with Gennady Golovkin’s career moving forward.
"I’ve long admired Gennady as a fan and how he conducts his business and we team up at a very exciting moment. Gennadiy is one of the most recognizable and entertaining fighters on the planet and I can’t wait to get started to work together on the upcoming World title challenge against Derevyanchenko at MSG on October 5.
“We know the world wants to see the Canelo trilogy but there are so many opportunities out there for Gennady all over the world and we look forward to working together on them. First things first is for Gennadiy to win the title on October 5.”
The partnership between Golovkin and Hearn's companies make a potential showdown with Saunders more likely.
Saunders recently inked a promotional deal with Matchroom, and expressed his belief that working with Hearn will open the door to bigger fights against the likes of Golovkin and Alvarez.
The WBO super-middleweight champion said: "This move is going to benefit me massively.
"Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing can put me right out on the branch for those big fights.
“I’m on Golovkin and Canelo’s turf. I’ve made this move to make them fights because I’m sick of hearing their bulls*** excuses.
“Those fights make financial sense and they make sense because we’re on the same network."
