David Haye EXCLUSIVE: Former champion reveals misunderstanding that led to Derek Chisora press conference rant

David Haye has exclusively told talkSPORT that a contractual misunderstanding led to Derek Chisora’s stunning press conference rant on Monday.
The heavyweight will battle Joseph Parker on October 26 at the O2 Arena as co-main event to Regis Prograis’ fight against Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series final.
However, when Eddie Hearn stated that Prograis vs Taylor was the sole main event, Chisora went off at almost everybody on the presser’s top table.
His manager David Haye, who avoided the wrath, explained to talkSPORT H&J: “I’d agreed with Eddie Hearn that it was a co-main event so it’d be equal parity.
“When Derek asked the question, ‘Who’s the main event?’ The answer contractually is, ‘It’s equal.’
“But Eddie then said, ‘The guy next to you,’ meaning the super-lightweight world champions.
“As far as Derek was concerned he was main event or co-main event. Then, when he was up on stage, he was told he’s not.
“Obviously he’s not the type of guy you kind of do the old switcheroo with. You’ve gotta be quite straight with Derek.
“He felt he was being taken advantage of in some way and kicked off in true Derek Chisora style.”
Regardless of the backlash, Chisora’s clip was uploaded across social media and viewed millions of times on various platforms.
Haye concluded: “If you actually look at the press, he was trending on social media. Everybody was talking.
“Good or bad publicity, it equals to pay-per-view buys and interest.
“People who may not have been aware of this show are now aware of this show.”
