FUTURE FIGHT

Boxing news: Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis exchange trash talk on social media, Tevin Farmer gets involved

American lightweights Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis shared a brief back-and-forth over social media as they talked up a potential future fight.

The lightweight stars, 20 and 24 years old respectively, are two of the top fighters in the 135lbs division, although they're currently separated by promotional boxing politics.

Vasyl Lomachenko holds the WBA, WBO & WBC ‘franchise’ lightweight world titles, with Haney recently upgraded to become the standard WBC lightweight champion.

He will make his first defence against Alfredo Santiago on Saturday, while 'Tank' is due to fight Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA ‘regular’ belt on December 28.

In a recent media huddle, Davis dismissed the way Haney claimed his belt and said: “It’s not his title. I’m not taking nothing away from him, but it’s not his title to actually fight for.

“Once he fights for it, then it’s his, but you can’t just give nobody a title.”

Haney responded with a tweet: “As soon as I handle business on Saturday, 'Tank' can fight me for a real 135lbs world title."

To which Davis hit back: "You better sit your little ass down, I will hurt you bad.

"And you not a champ for real, they gave you the belt. Mine was earned little chump."

At this point Davis' long-time rival Tevin Farmer got involved.

Until 'Tank' recently vacated his belt to move up, he and Farmer were attempting to make a much-anticipated super-featherweight unification bout.

The IBF champion weighed-in, telling former WBA champion Davis: "Yours wasn't earned n***a.

"You fought for the 'regular' WBA and they took Alberto Machado's belt from him and upgraded yours to the 'super'. You was given your WBA."

He concluded by reassuring Haney: "You are a world champion, keep grinding."
