Exclusive – Mayweather may be the greatest of all-time, says Hatton

Ricky Hatton says Floyd Mayweather can lay claim to being the greatest boxer of all-time.

The 36-year-old, unbeaten in 45 fights, has won eight world titles in five different weight classes.

His latest masterclass came against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Las Vegas last weekend as the American claimed the WBC light middleweight and WBA super world light middleweight belts.

And Hatton, who had his unbeaten record shattered by Mayweather in their epic welterweight showdown in 2007, has hailed his former foe.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “Alvarez is a world champion, a top ten pound-for-pound fighter in his own right and everyone said he could be the man to beat him, and it was a mismatch. He won it so hands down.

“I look back through history at the Sugar Ray Leonards, the Roberto Durans, your Tommy Hearns and Mohammed Ali, who will always be known as the greatest no matter what, but I am struggling to find anyone better [than Mayweather] at the moment.

“I look through boxing history and when you think of talents and successes and going through weight divisions and beating other world champions and not getting hit and the ability he has got, I’m struggling to see anyone [greater].”
