Peter Fury EXCLUSIVE – ‘Tyson Fury will NOT retire after Wladimir Klitschko rematch’, insists champion’s trainer and uncle

Tyson Fury will NOT retire from boxing after his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, and will target an all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua after seeing off the Ukrainian, talkSPORT have been told.

The Mancunian, who made headlines with his ‘you were beaten by a fat man’ jibes in a press conference last week, will face Klitschko again in his home town on June 9.

Fury has teased his thoughts about retirement in the past, and in a social media post on Sunday, the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ promised it will be his last in the ring.

"I set off today for what promises to be a very hard eight weeks' training camp,” he said on Twitter.

“This will be my best fight, then I'll retire 100%."

Later on Sunday, he then posted a picture of his family and added: “This is the reason I'm retiring after my next fight, to spend my time with these guys.”

But his uncle and trainer Peter Fury has told talkSPORT his nephew will NOT hang up his gloves after the Manchester bout.

“I’ve been speaking to him at length, and because of the poor reception he’s had in his own country, he has contemplated retirement," he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breafast.

"He’s thought, ‘what’s the point? What am I fighting for?’ It’s a very sad state of affairs. Tyson is a genuine fighting man. He loves to fight, he loves to box. And if he’s not going to be accredited by his home country, he’s thinking about moving out altogether.

“I think it’s a high possibility that he will go to the United States, they love him over there. It’s quite bizarre that other countries idolise him. He gets massive reception everywhere he goes, yet in England it’s totally the opposite.

“When you’ve done such a magnificent achievement as being world heavyweight champion of the world, to get that reception he will obviously be a bit dejected.

“But as far as retiring is concerned, where I’m coming from, I wouldn’t see anybody have the last laugh because that’s probably what they want.”

“He will box on. He’s a fighting man and a true world champion and he will cement his legacy.

“He will go down in history as a great fighter, that’s our aim.”

Fury also revealed a bout against 26-year-old Joshua for his IBF heavyweight title will be Tyson’s next goal if he comes through against Klitschko.

“Yes, we’d like that fight,” he said when asked about a possible Joshua meeting.

“We’d have to really have a look if the Anthony Joshua fight can be made great, but we’d definitely like that fight.

“We’ve spoken to [promoter] Eddie Hearn as well, and he said he’s also like that fight, providing Tyson comes through against Wladimir Klitschko.

“Klitschko is the biggest test in world boxing. He’s been a real world champion and he’s a serious threat, but then there’s Deontay Wilder.

“I think Joshua is a big fight as well, so if we can make that fight we’ll certainly give it a go.

“But I can’t see why that fight can’t be made.”
