Andre Ward hits out at Eddie Hearn over Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr comments, Hearn responds
Andre Ward and Eddie Hearn exchanged words on social media on Monday night after the British promoter's latest remarks regarding the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr exhibition.
The 51-year-old Jones Jr will face 54-year-old ‘Iron Mike’ in an exhibition bout on September 12 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in California.
Hearn said in a recent interview that the exhibition would be 'an absolute disaster' if it were waved off because one of the participants attempted a knockout.
An article based on the quotes from this interview was then put up with the headline: "Hearn Warns That Tyson-Jones Could Be 'An Absolute Disaster'"
Upon seeing this, Ward tweeted: "With all due respect to Mr Hearn, who seems to have a lot to say about everyone else’s business, [he] should manage his own affairs across the pond, and let everyone else do the same.
"His opinion is not the absolute voice on what’s good for boxing. Carry on."
Hearn replied: "Blimey Andre old chap, I got asked my opinion.
"Might be worth reading the article over the headline, 'If a commissioner called it off that would be a disaster.'
"It’s called click bait."
Andy Foster, executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, who’ve decided to sanction the fight, previously told that there will be no judges scoring the fight and so no winner, unless there’s a knockout.
However this is absolutely not the plan.
Foster said: “We can’t mislead the public as to this is some kind of real fight.
“They can get into it a little bit, but I don’t want people to get hurt. They know the deal.
“It’s an exhibition. They can exhibit their boxing skills, but I don’t want them using their best efforts to hurt each other.
“They’re going to spar hard, but they shouldn’t be going for a knockout."
