Since the first day Canelo walked into the ramshackle Julian Magdaleno Gym, he has been trained by the father-son duo of Chepo and Eddy Reynoso.

At just 11, Mexico's future pound-for-pound king followed in his older brothers' footsteps and would regularly take an hour long bus ride from their family home in Juanacatlan to the training hub in Guadalajara with the purpose of learning how to box.

Though all seven of his brothers also went on to become professional boxers at varying lower levels, it was clear from the early stages that there was something special about Saul.

Nicknamed Canelo because of his Cinnamon red hair - a relatively rare complexion in Mexico - the youngster did not appear that intimidating from the outside.

However, his amateur foes quickly learned not to judge a book by its cover.

By the age of just 14, he had won the junior national championships and run out of opponents willing to fight him.

As a result, he turned professional at the age of just 15 and began his ascent to glory.

The story that follows next is well known.

Chepo and Eddy Reynoso developed Canelo into the elite, four-weight world champion and undoubted pound-for-pound superstar that he is today.

As he aged, Chepo let Eddy take the reigns on his own.

In truth, just as the younger Reynoso propelled Canelo to the position he's in today, it could also very fairly be argued that Alvarez brought the little-known coach onto the big stage.

Now, Reynoso is recognised as one of the top trainers in the sport.

In 2019, when Canelo unified the middleweight division against Daniel Jacobs and claimed a light-heavyweight belt by knocking out Sergey Kovalev, Reynoso was universally crowned 'Trainer of the Year'.

The consequence of this is that he now has fighters clamouring to work with him.

Eddy has built a tremendous stable of world class boxers who all train out of his new, more modern gym in San Diego, California.

Eddy Reynoso's Stable

Canelo Alvarez (Four-Weight World Champion)

Oscar Valdez (Two-Weight World Champion)

Julio Cesar Martinez (Flyweight World Champion)

Andy Ruiz Jr (Former Heavyweight World Champion)

Ryan Garcia (Lightweight Contender)

Frank Sanchez (Heavyweight Contender)

Next to Canelo, Oscar Valdez stars in the Reynoso gym following his stunning KO of Miguel Berchelt.

The 29-0 (23 KOs) former featherweight world champion owns the WBC super-featherweight crown and stands proudly as a king of two divisions.

Also in the stable is WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez.

After losing his pro debut, the destructive Mexican has won all 17 of his fights since and become a fearsome force at his weight.

A new arrival is former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr.

Notorious for his lack of discipline, Ruiz Jr has been on a weight-loss journey with Reynoso as he looks to get back into contention after the rematch defeat to Anthony Joshua.

The boxing world waits to see if the top trainer can be the man to take the one-time heavyweight king back to his old throne.

He will be able to spar with unbeaten heavyweight Frank Sanchez, who is rising under Reynoso's watch.

And last, but far from least, is lightweight star Ryan Garcia.

The unbeaten 22-year-old has been a social media sensation for several years now and was for some time not taken seriously as an elite prospect.

That all changed under Reynoso, though, as he got up off the canvas at the start of 2021 and knocked out Luke Campbell.

With Canelo at the forefront and the Caleb Plant fight up next, Reynoso has risen from humble beginnings to put together a 'super stable' and is now building on the foundations for a bright future.
