Jake Paul and Triller appear to be cooking up the perfect storm.

On paper, he is a professional boxer who has been training for two years, with the natural power to be a problem for novices and now has a 3-0 record.

So far his victories have come against a fellow YouTuber, a former NBA player in Nate Robinson and ex-UFC star Ben Askren. None of those had a professional boxing match under their belt before they faced Paul.

And yet, Paul is making a truck load of money for his fights. The YouTuber, who has around 23 million subscribers, made $690k just from the purse of his fight with Askren and says it made millions more through PPV buys.

Now, a litany of names from the MMA community and beyond want a piece of the brash, loudmouth.

Fans want to pay to see a hero shut up the bad guy. That’s what this is and despite calls from purists to have Paul face a real boxer - with Tommy Fury seemingly the perfect foil both experience and marketing wise - why would he do that?

Paul is making great money with these crossover fights against men generally not even in his weight class, let alone sport. Social networking platform Triller have noticed the hype and partnered that with their unique way of presenting action.

At the Paul vs Askren event, we saw Triller take things to the next level with their presentation and it’s nothing like you’ll see on ESPN, Sky Sports or BT Sport. It was madness, really.

How the show opened

There was no presenter talking to you about the magnitude of the fight and bouncing off analysis. It was hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg and comedian Pete Davidson openly rolling and lighting weed.

This would be a common theme throughout the show, but we quickly learned that swear words of any type were very much permitted here. A skit with Steve Urkel and Snoop Dogg followed talking about how Triller are about to take over.

Oscar De La Hoya had a good time

The legendary boxer took to commentary for Frank Mir’s boxing debut against former cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham and his stint on the mic did not go unnoticed.

Twitter was ablaze with De La Hoya’s ridiculous commentary where at one point he talked up Mike Tyson as one of his inspirations.

Former UFC champion wondered if he had enjoyed a couple of beers and tweeted: "This is the craziest event I’ve ever seen in my life. And I can’t turn it off."

Ric Flair officiated a slap fight

If you’re going to bring in the 16-time world champion wrestling legend Ric Flair, of course it would be for a slap fight.

Flair dictated proceedings and even taunted the competitors when they didn’t quite land saying he could have taken the slap. The Nature Boy celebrated with the victor and dished out his trademark 'WOO' - job done.

Justin Bieber and many more performed

Yep, Bieber co-headlined with the Askren vs Paul fight and other acts like Doja Cat, Saweetie, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg himself also performed.

There were so many musical acts that between the first fight and the second, there was one hour and 40 minutes. If you tuned in for fighting, patience would have been your virtue.

Snoop Dogg on commentary

It’s not just that Snoop Dogg was on commentary or that Pete Davidson was interviewing people in their locker rooms, but the commentary team had a minimum of five people on it at any given time, in some cases it had more.

Five felt like way too much at some points. Mario Lopez, Davidson, Snoop and a host of others joined the play-by-play guys and bless Lopez for trying to give some analysis on what was unfolding.

However, there was no conventional play-by-play with a retired pro breaking things down. Instead, Snoop was just doing what he’s great at and giving a running commentary from his perspective like only he can.

Even Dana White is impressed. Sort of

The UFC president believed Ben Askren would win and was so confident that he'd bet $1m.

Turns out that was just a way to emphasis his belief Askren would wipe the floor with him, but the fact the event did so well - $75m according to Paul - is bad for boxing.

“This is the right guy with the right shtick at the right time. This guy is playing this thing perfectly," he said.

"And boxing is in such a bad place, they’re doing a really good job at sucking in people to buy into this thing. And good for him.”
