Josh Warrington insists he will avenge the first defeat of his career when he rematches Mauricio Lara on September 4.

A second bout between the featherweights has now been officially announced, though the setting will be significantly different to their first meeting.

Back in February, the former IBF champion stepped into the ring behind closed doors and was stopped in nine rounds by the little-known Mexican.

On September 4 though, Warrington will be back in more familiar surroundings.

With COVID restrictions lifted, Headingley Stadium will be able to welcome 20,000 of his crazed Leeds supporters.

Katie Taylor will defend her undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO lightweight titles against Jessica Han on the undercard.

Warrington told talkSPORT: "Back in February I suffered the first defeat of my career.

"After 30 fights and 11 years unbeaten, I've gone from being ranked number one in the world to ranked fifth or sixth now.

"And this is all because this cheeky Mexican gave me basically a good hiding.

"We aim to put that right in the rematch at Headingley Stadium back in Leeds...

"Mauricio's a great fighter and a good puncher.

"But if we were to box 100 times, I think 99 times I'd beat him.

"That only one time he was successful was that last time out.

"We've learned from our mistakes and I'd like to bring a top class Josh Warrington performance for this next one."

Lara said: “I’ve never been much of a talker, I’d rather do my talking in the ring.

"I'm going for a repeat performance on September 4.

"Hit once, hit twice. Warrington should know that I am coming for him.

"This is all about pride. This is for Mexico!"
