Haye v Fournier: Undercard

Haye v Fournier: What’s been said?

David Haye: "This is strictly a one off. My next project is opening my academies to get youngsters off the streets and into boxing.

"I’m feeling the nostalgia. When Joe first began challenging me I said it was inconceivable I would ever fight again. But here we are.

"Now, I have to admit that if this goes great then exceptional circumstances could trigger another five to ten percent chance of me doing something more serious.

When asked about something more serious he said, "Lennox. I’ve always idolised him. In all honesty I wouldn’t be able to resist the honour of sharing a ring with this giant of the game who is not only one of the best heavyweights of all time but in my opinion arguably the greatest British boxer ever.

"While I’m over all my old injuries - the Achilles, the back, the shoulder, the bicep - I would still need every year of difference just to survive with Lennox. He is bigger and heavier than me but just as fast. Amazing. He is the perfect heavyweight from his fantastic jab to his devastating power.

"Even with age on my side I would expect to be knocked out. But by this true gentleman, that would be a privilege."

Haye also revealed: "I told Joe I’d only do this for the same money I got for my pay-per-view second fight with Bellew. He came back with the deal in two days.

"This fight is a great advertisement to kids all over the country who I intend to help find through training, discipline , health, fitness and boxing a better direction in life than knife crime.

"If knocking out Joe can help that happen then sorry, pal, I’ll have to get out the old Hayemaker."
