Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward is guiding Muhammad Ali’s unbeaten grandson, Nico Ali Walsh: ‘He learns a lot from me’

Muhammad Ali’s unbeaten grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, is sitting under the learning tree with Tyson Fury trainer SugarHill Steward.
The 21-year-old middleweight is 2-0 in his young career with two knockouts to his name and will be back in action on December 11 on the Vasyl Lomachenko card at Madison Square Garden.
Steward is a part of boxing royalty himself as the nephew of the legendary trainer, Emmanuel Steward, a man who trained 41 world champions during his career, including Lennox Lewis.
These two descendents of greatness are working together and Bob Arum, Ali Walsh’ promoter, says they have already bonded.
"He is learning from Sugarhill, Tyson Fury's trainer and Emanuel Steward's nephew," Top Rank's Arum, who promoted 27 of Ali's fights, told Sky Sports.
"They have bonded. With Sugarhill he will only get better.
Steward has masterminded both of Fury’s victories over Deontay Wilder in one of the all-time great heavyweight trilogies and the Gypsy King has publicly lauded the effect his trainer has had on him.
Steward is just as invested in Ali Waslh, though, and sees big things for the young American.
"He learns a lot from me," Steward told Sky Sports about Ali Walsh.
"We do a lot of talking because my uncle is someone who was great in boxing, just like his grandfather.
"I tell him things he needs to know.
"We talk about things which are very helpful to him. The things I've gone through, the questions I've had to answer, what people think.
"It relaxes him so he doesn't have to go through the same thing."
While Arum is excited about presenting such an exciting talent with a legendary genepool, the 89-year-old is wary of too much too soon.
"Even though his grandfather is the great Muhammad Ali, Nico does not have a great background in boxing.
"He was in the amateurs, but not like a lot of the other guys. It's in the genes!
"The kid obviously has a lot of talent having inherited it, to some extent, his grandfather's genes.
"We will see him again on December 11 on the Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Richard Commey card at Madison Square Garden.
"He is a wonderful, young man from a great family. We're all pulling for him and hoping that this is the start of a significant career in boxing."
